Jewellery Care

FROM OUR WORKBENCH, INTO THE WORLD!

Find below some simple, mindful care steps to ensure the longevity of your jewellery.

Bianca Mavrick Jewellery works within a visual language of materials that we categorise as precious or playful. Our playful materials focus on the label's love of colour  colour-coated metal and Italian cellulose acetate. Our precious materials include sterling silver, 14K gold vermeil, pearls and semi-precious gemstones.

  • Regardless of material, we recommend the following care tips:When wearing we recommend that you avoid contact with water, chlorine and salt water. Avoid harsh household chemicals, cosmetics and perfume coming into contact with your jewellery.
  • Take care not to drop or brush your jewellery against hard or abrasive surfaces.
  • Always store your piece in its pouch or box when taking it off to prevent unnecessary surface scratching.

PLAYFUL — COLOUR COATED METAL

Bianca Mavrick Jewellery is known for our signature colour coatings on metal. We create jewellery by using a colourful spectrum of industrial-strength, bake on enamels, applied to hypoallergenic stainless steel and brass.

While the coating is tough, we recommend you treat your jewellery with care. Embrace the wabi-sabi nature of enamel - precious, imperfect and a little beat up with wear only adds to the character of the piece

How to care for colour-coated metals?

  • Take care not to drop your jewellery on a hard surface like concrete floors. Avoid contact with abrasive surfaces.
  • Store your jewellery in its pouch when not wearing to protect the coating- Avoid throwing pieces into the bottom of your bag amongst your keys if you take them off when out as this can lead to excessive surface scratches.
  • Wipe your jewellery after wearing it with a soft cloth, avoid water and harsh chemicals!

A little Wabi-sabi!

While the coating is tough, we recommend you treat your bangle with care by following the tips above!

Embrace the wabi-sabi nature of enamel - this precious coating can become worn in with age, adding character of the piece. If any chips do occur over the course of the lifetime of the bangle, they can be filled in by painting over with similar coloured nail polish.

PLAYFUL — ITALIAN CELLULOSE ACETATE

Cellulose acetate is a non-petroleum based bio-plastic, made from a renewable cellulose fibre resource. It is lightweight, strong and glossy. Each piece is uniquely patterned, thus creating truly one of a kind jewellery components.

How to care for Italian cellulose acetate?

To keep your jewellery in great condition, simply wipe with a soft cleaning cloth. When your piece isn't being worn, store in its packaging to avoid unnecessary surface scratching.

PRECIOUS — STERLING SILVER

925 Sterling silver is composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. We source our metals locally, using an Australian refinery that supplies us with recycled precious metals. Silver oxidises (darkens) over time and with use.

How to care for sterling silver jewellery?

  • To maintain the shine and finish of your jewellery, keep away from water and store your jewellery in its packaging when it isn’t being worn. Zip lock pouches help jewellery pieces to avoid oxidisation.
  • Jewellery can be polished using a silver polishing cloth or 'silver foam' and a soft toothbrush Gently pat your silver with a damp sponge covered in silver foam then rinse clean, and your jewels should be shining again.

PRECIOUS —14 K GOLD VERMEIL

Gold vermeil gives the pieces a long lasting golden hue. We use 18k gold that is a minimum of 2.5 microns thick, layered over sterling silver. At their core the jewellery is made from 925 sterling silver rather than cheaper base metals. This gives our jewellery its longevity and sustainability as gold vermeil has the ability to be re-plated or recycled. This is why we avoid gold filled jewellery in favour of 14K gold vermeil.

How to care for gold vermeil jewellery?

  • When exercising or showering, remove your vermeil jewellery - avoid sweat and water to maximise the finishes longevity.
  • Clean your piece by buffing gently with a soft toothbrush, warm water and if needed, a mild detergent.
  • Store its packaging box away from moisture when it is not being worn.
  • Avoid exposure to household chemical, bleach and perfumes to maximise the life of your jewellery.

PRECIOUS — GEMSTONES AND PEARLS

We love gemstones for their history and meaning and make sure to source ethical and sustainably mined, natural mineral stones to minimise our environmental impact as a brand. To keep gemstones clean and shiny, use warm soapy water and a soft brush. Avoid contact with chemicals or excessive temperatures when cleaning and wearing.

Pearl Care

Our designs include freshwater pearls! To care for these natural beauties, avoid contact with perfume, chemicals and makeup. Simply clean by rubbing with a soft cloth.

HANDCRAFTED NATURE

Many pieces from our collection are carefully handcrafted from scratch in our studio. There are many involved silversmithing, artisanal craft and industrial processes involved to create each piece. We pay the utmost attention to quality control. Due to the handmade nature of these pieces, and the nature of the Italian cellulose material, pieces may have subtle variances in colour pattern. We think these variances give the jewellery its unique character.

Please be aware that while we try our hardest to ensure our product photographs accurately reflect the real life colour of a piece, patterned materials like Italian cellulose marble differently  and vary from piece to piece. You may not receive exactly what is pictured but we promise you will love your unique piece.
